Program Itinerary

A major aspect of NostrAmerica teaching is to provide the students with as many opportunities to interact with local people as possible. This is why we provide fifteen hours of excursions per week, which roughly breaks down to three hours of excursions per day, Monday through Friday. However, some of the excursions depend on seasonal events; for example, July 4th Independence Festival.

On the first Saturday of their stay, students will travel by coach to Big Sur, a small town on the pacific coast three hours south of San Francisco. Big Sur is known for its Sequoia trees and beautiful hiking trails. Once in Big Sur, Magnus Toren, the director of the Henry Miller Memorial Library, will give a lecture on local history and literature. Students will eat dinner at the library and camp under the stars.

The next morning, the students will travel by coach to Santa Cruz, a beach town midway between San Francisco and Big Sur. Students will spend the day at the famous Beach Boardwalk. On Sunday evening, the coach will take the students back to their rooms at UC Berkeley.
