The Game
A central aspect of the NostrAmerica program is what we have named "The Game."
- The Game is an interactive, group-oriented activity
- It requires students to apply what they have learned in the classroom and on daily excursions to answer a series of riddles over the duration of the program.
- After the students have arrived and are evaluated based on their proficiency of the language, we will divide them into groups of five.
- Each group of five students will receive a list of five clues to answer every two days. The riddles will range in difficulty from 1 to 5. A riddle with a difficulty rating of 1 will - if answered correctly - reward 1 point, and so on.
- Each list of riddles will draw directly from in-class lessons, ranging anywhere from music to literature to cinema to culture in general. The supervised excursions will give students an arena in which to solve the riddles, and will require them to interact not only with their environment, but also the people of San Francisco.
- Each riddle, no matter how difficult, cannot be answered without close attention and participation in the daily lessons and activities. Every two days, the progress of each group will be posted, and at the end of the program, the winning group will be announced and handsomely rewarded.
